Seeking for 6 out of 6 million" של דני מנדלסון, הוא קבל מאיתנו תמונות בשביל הספר מ"בית התפוצות".

English translation of transription:

Zippi Rossene:
My grandfather's name was Akiva Lustig. He was born in Rozhniatov and his father's name (if I remember that correctly) was Moshe Lustig. He was married twice, his first wife died. Our relatives are from the Lerer and Raifeisen families. A few members of our family went to France, to Paris. There was somebody, his name was Max Raifeisen, and he had a chocolate factory. I met him in 1966 for the first and last time.

My grandfather Akiva Lustig served in the Austrian army during WW I. He was a military paramedic; he lost his eye and received a ribbon for bravery. After the war he came to Germany and there he met my grandmother, she was from Tarnów. Several of her brothers were rabbis, their family name was Potashmacher. I knew only their cousin and our connections were very weak, I was very young. They lived in Germany, my grandfather died in 1935 from some illness and after that my mother went to Rozhniatov to visit her grandfather in 1935. He [my grandfather] died in March and she came one month after that, he [my mother's grandfather]  wanted to persuade her to stay there. He wanted to make a match for her to somebody from the local Jews of that place. She told him: "If  I'll leave Germany... "  In any case, she lived in a big city, she was born in Hanover and after that lived in Recklinghausen, she was in "Bar Kochva" - she was a Zionist. And she told him: "There is only one place for me - Palestine!" And that's what she really did. That was our good fortune, because if she received that proposal - my father was married to  somebody else. And nobody survived... And that's how she came to Israel in the beginning of 1936 with her mother, they had tourist visas. My mother had red haiy, in 1935 she was young - only 24 years old. When she went to receive the exit visa from Germany, she came to a clerk with a short sleeve and a swastika, a member of the party. He asked her: "Ms. Lustig, what place are you going and when are you coming back?" She told that she had no intention to return. He asked: "Why? Here will be very good!" She answered: "May be for you, but not for us!" He was surprised: "Why?"  "I am Jewish!" "But it's impossible to see that..." - he told.

My mother retold this story many times. They came to Israel and one aunt already lived here, she was really a Zionist.

They stayed here and in the same time my father and his brothers and his mother came too. They established a printing house. That was their profession and it remained our family business. My brother and his sons also continue this business.

Vladimir Levin: Is it possible to put this interview into the internet site that we are creating now?

Zippi: Yes, but what's the connection?

Vladimir: It will be in connection with Rozhniatov, Galicia.

Zippi: The name of Rozhniatov was mentioned in one book that I can recommend. The name of this book is The Lost: Seeking of 6 out of 6 million. The author is Daniel Mendelson, he received the pictures for this book from the "Diaspora Museum." [...] This book was published 13-14 times in many different languages; the latest edition was in Polish. Daniel traveled all over the world; he was looking for the brother of his grandfather that came from Bolechow to the USA. The family immigrated to USA, but the brother returned back to Bolechow, he said that only in Bolechow can he be a gvir (a respected man). He was married and had 4 daughters, they all were killed. Daniel Mendelson, his brother and sister wanted to learn the history of the family. They didn't find anybody from the family. In the end of this book I understood that Bolechow is situated in East Galicia (now Ukraine). He mentioned in this book two names of the individuals that were mentioned in the stories told by my mother. This is nice...

Vladimir: Good. Thank you!

Zippi: You very welcome!
