Full indexed catalog of the Old Jewish Cemetery in Siret is online now
The old Jewish cemetery in Siret is the most ancient and significant monument of Jewish heritage in South Bukovina (Romania). Of particular value are the unique richly ornamented gravestones of the 18th and early 19th centuries, which are true works of stone-cutting art.
In 2021-2022, expeditions of the Jewish Galicia and Bukovina organization carried out a complete documentation of the cemetery. A catalog of more than 300 surviving tombstones is presented now on the JGB site (see here). You may see also the gallery of the most artistically outstanding ancient tombstones.
