In Solotvina they did not celebrate birth days. He studied in a traditional Jewish learning room (Cheder). His father was a merchant and had many brothers and sisters. He remembers that most of the family income was invested in giving the children good education inculding private tuders. The town houses were made of wood and thier was a river that flew throw the town. He mentions there were alot of gristmills. The town had many youth movements (Betar, Dror, Hashomer Hatzair, Bond) including Gordonia which he was a member in.
