Jewish life in Bolszowce, 1930-s. From the Popik family album

The gallery presents selected photographs from the album of Popic family, a big Jewish family which lived  for generations in the city of Bolszowce. Allmost all family members – the brothers  Uli, Yaakov, Shaya, Moishe, Faivish and their sister Reizl, were killed with their spouses and children in Holocaust. The only survivors – the brothers Buche (Baruch) and David, sons of Reizl, who managed to escape to Kazakhstan before the Nazi occupation, took with them a family album. It was  generously borrowed to us by Zvi Gershzon, Buche’s son who lives now in Givat Zeev, Israel. The unique album photos expose different aspects of Jewish life in Galicia shtetl  on the eve of  its destruction.
